Mathare North Rangers Football Club is an initiative of Wilsen initiative (Wi) under soccer for hope and development. We use soccer to tackle issues affecting young people from drug abuse, unemployment, peer pressure etc.
It is now 8 years since we established our community club to support youth pursue and develop their talents into the next level while they learn other fundamental life skills.
We advocate for soccer initiative, education and employment (employability) amongst our players. We envisage a society where young people become peace ambassadors, role model and development champion in our society through the use of their talents and skills.
Part of our rebranding strategy is launching our second T-shirt and new logo. The T-shirt will be available for purchase at Kes 500 and the proceeds received after production cost will go to the clubs kitty to cater for transport, soccer balls and other materials.
The festive season is just around the corner and preparation is in earnest to the 7the edition of Mathare North Festive Season Soccer Tournament (MFSST).
The first edition was in 2011 and since the the tournament has brought together community in ushering peaceful coexisting of people especially before, during and after election. We invite well wishers to partner, donate their time and resources for a successful tournament.
Background of the tournament
During the festive season schools are closed and majority of young people idle around spending time in anything they think is necessary without a second thought and to their detriment during this period youth indulge in vices such as crime, drug abuse, endless parties just to mention but a few. The foundation of the tournament is to create a platform where youth can spend their energy and time in playing or watching grassroots soccer where they connect with each other while they get life-skills from their coaches and community leaders. Since inception in 2011 we have had a total of 16 teams participating from within Mathare.
